Artist Practice
Miranda’s practice is centred on an investigation into the spaces within digital photographic representation. Her work provides an entry into the digital image that is designed to transform our understanding of the reality within our known ‘space’ and move us into an unknown, normally inaccessible visual territory. This journey is facilitated through the processes of digital photography, film and video animations. The work is an investigation into how digital technologies can be used to understand and replicate the visual world around us and it proposes that digital photography and its associated technologies are causing us to develop a new way of seeing, perceiving and translating visual information. This new world of visual ‘intelligent’ communication, not only can replicate the experience of moving through space by changing photographic focus, but each stage of looking and enquiring can become a new starting point and entry into an unknown territory and therefore creating an environment that gradually immerses the observer into the mind and world of the computer. This slippage is a gradual one, one usually unnoticed, but the reality is that computer coding and algorithms are driving our world and the development of computer programs such as Deep Dreaming by Google and Dream Scope, are further eroding the conceptual differences between the real and artificial.
